During the last few weeks of Boys’ Brigade, we were using the theme of ‘Mission Impossible’ for our devotions and we looked at different bible stories which showed us that it doesn’t matter how impossible a situation may be, with God anything is possible.
As we head towards Easter, we are reminded of the greatest Mission Impossible story ever!
The story is familiar to us all:
Following a meal with his friends, Jesus went to a garden to pray. He asked his friends to pray for him. Jesus knew that the time had come for his trial and his death – he was afraid but he trusted God. Soldiers arrived and arrested him and took him to the Jewish and Roman leaders in Jerusalem. Jesus was sentenced to death by crucifixion – a cruel and public death. On Friday, he was crucified and died but on Sunday, he was raised from death back to life: It was the ultimate Mission Impossible!
Can you imagine how terrified the followers of Jesus must have been? It would have turned their world upside down. As well as losing a friend, they would have realised that they themselves were now in danger.
As with the other stories we have looked at, the situation for the friends of Jesus would have seemed impossible. Was this the end? We celebrate on Easter Sunday the fact that this was not the end, as Jesus was raised from the dead. Nothing is impossible for God!
We know that we are living through some very strange and difficult times at the moment. Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to trust in the God for whom nothing is impossible.
We hope that you are all keeping well and that you are finding lots of fun things to keep you occupied. Don’t forget to check out #BBatHOME for some great ways to have fun.
Take care and have fun.
